The maid of honor (or matron of honor in case she is taken) is the second most important female attendant of the wedding party, right after the bride. She has hast to take care of various task and duties and is one of the essential factors of how perfect the big day will be. The maid is involved in most parts of the planning and the organization of the weeding. And it is up to her to keep things under control and to be a moral supporter for the bride in times of crisis.
The bride usually asks a good friend of her and sometimes she'll pick a close relative like her sister or even her mother. The person in question normally feels flattered to be asked to be the maid of honor. But keep in mind: Not only is it an honor, some duties come along with it, too. being an contact point in case a guest needs some help or information
Those are a lot of things to take care of, -especially on the wedding day. But to be a maid of honor is not only stressful at times, but a great experience, too. The maid of honor can really make a difference for the bride. So in case you are asked to be the maid, get a good night's sleep before the big day, -you'll need it (almost) as much as the bride.
